One of the most creative and explorative of today’s vocalists. Dwight Trible takes a different route on this recent release, plugging in with John Beasley/key, Andre Gouche/b, GE Stinson/g, Greg Paul/dr and b ringing in a collection of guests for a thicker and darker album than normal. There’s a thick and less flexible to Trible’s voice as well, casting shadows on the electric pulses of “Truth “ and “My Stomping Ground” with some earthy soul pulse s on “Beach Vibes”> Extra percussion from Megashia Jackson and Rene Fisher create an avalanche with Kamasi Washington’s tenor on the cluttered “African Drum”,, and Georgia Anne Muldrow adds voice on the foreboding “Black Dance”. The album comes across as one painted by a wide and thick brush, instead of the usual textured passions we expect from this bright voice.
