He slows down John Coltrane’s “Equinox” to a soulful stroll, while going in rapid runs on his own ‘Sun Salutation”. Herbie Hancock’s “Butterfly” features delicious voicings by the soulful Malika Tirolien, while Stephanie McKay floats on “Dreaming of Freedom” and sweetens up “Look No Further”. Fortner ripples along with the tenorist on “Central P ark North” and gets hip-hoppy for “Twisted”. Sharp angles, but with polished corners.
