Roberto Pistolesi: Open Lands and Moving People

Italian drummer Roberto Pistolesi leads a multi-faceted team of Roberto Taenzi/p, Zack Lober/b, Daniel Juarez/ts, Teis Semey/g and Sanne Huijbregts/voc-vi through a multicolored collection of musical portraits. Huuijbregts brings  her lovely voice and pulsating vibes up to the front seat with Pistolesi on the driving “Latina” while getting dreamy with Juarez on the dark and oblique “And The Infinite Sadness” . There is some amazingly intricate work between Semey and Juarez as they veer around the sinewy “Critical Battery” like a Neopolitan roundabout, with Pistolesi shifting gears like a Maserati  under Lober on the melancholic “Serious Moves”. The team gets fun and funky on the boppiong “C-ornette Alla Cream” and rocks it hard with the energetic “The Craziest Things”. Each song has multiple movements, and more flavors thrown around than a Florentine gelateria. And just as tasty!
