Michael Morreale: Volume 4  17th

Michael Morreale leads a trio and beyond, playing  trumpet, flugelhorn and even piano along with Bill Moring/b and Tim Horner. The trio format has Morreale with his brass, fluffy over Moring’s pleading and leading bass on “Suicide Is Painless” , while on trumpet the rest of the way, such as spattering on “Witches Soup”. He bops like the second coming of Red Rodney on the relaxed swing of “Now’s The Time.” and is snappy with Horner for “Red Cro”s”, imitating Charlie  Parker’s vulnerability on “Lovwr Man”.
On piano, Morreale is remarkably Bill Evansy romantic, as on a delicate “Emily” and a wondrous “A Time For Love”. I’d  pay to see him in either setting.
