Banda Magda: Amour T’es La?

My wife and I are planning a trip to France in September, so I’m trying to learn as much French as possible, as well as take in as many modern tunes from the local scene.  I’ve taken in some great and exciting sounds, but this one with Greek-born singer Magda Giannikou is a head scratcher.

The music includes vibes (Mika Mimura), jazz guitar (Ignacio Hernandez), percussion (Keita Ogaway), bass (Petros Klampanis) and drums (Marcelo Woloski) as well as tons of other winds and strings jumping in and out. The music itself is as light and sweet as a pop tart, and if Giannikou’s voice were any more saccharine I’d need to get a shot of insulin and take weekly H1C tests for my diabetes testing.  Sort of like a Blossom Dearie on helium, Giannikou coos in a cloying fashion, while the band delivers material more suited for a French farce of a movie. Just where does the maid come in?
