88 KEYS OF WONDER…Juan Maria Solare: Tango Monologues, Esa Helasvuo: Stella Nova

If you’re looking for something fresh from the ivories, give a listen to these 2 releases. Both are alluringly fresh and creative. And…not a single overplayed standard in sight!

Juan Maria Solare delivers almost 80 minutes of some of the most romantic music you’ll ever hear from one of the most romantic countries in the world. These twenty songs feature tangos ranging as far back as 1928 (with a wondrous “Bandoneon Arrabalero”) to as recent as 2008’s “Reencurentro.” Through it all, and in between, Solare caresses the keys like it’s a lithe partner in a tight fitting red gown, swaying, turning and changing paces in every direction in order to seduce, and it works like dark chocolates! You’ll play this one over and over, and still beg for more.

Esa Helasvuo brings ten compositions, mostly self-penned, and all of the melodies, forms and themes are gloriously romantic. The title track, “Intimacy” and “To Feel You…” are filled with sublime moments of sensuality and sensitivity, with Helasvuo being as patient with the keys as a diamond cutter in downtown LA. The closing “Blues Addiction” has wonderful hues that feels like a Monet, while “Boa Noiti  Meu Amor” floats like well made paper airplane. A balm to the ears.
