In the history of the British blues scene of the late 1960s, one of the forgotten guitarists is the gone too soon Peter Green. His halcyon days were with the first edition of Fleetwood Mac and later an incarnation of John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. Guitarist/vocalist Rick Berthod puts an end to this oversight with an impressive tribute of an album, teaming with a core of Ronee Mac/b-voc, Brett Barnes/dr, Billy Truitt/org-p, and a collection of six stringing guests that tear into Green’s years with Fleetwood Mac.
Better known pieces like the classic “Black Magic Woman” slither and shake, while “Oh Well” includes a humming Hammond and a boogied beat. Berthod takes a trip to Chicago on the wailing “Need Your Love So Bad”. Mara and the team calypso’s to “Loved Another Woman”. Junior Brantley cameos in on piano and growls out the agonizing “If You Be My Baby” and a trio of six stringers jump on board for a shuffling “Stop Messing Around”. Blue eyed soul at its zenith.
