Tenor saxist Alex Hitchcock and guitarist Ant Law mix and match with a team of drummers (Kendrick Scott/Jeff Ballard), bassists (Linda May Han Oh/Sun-Mi Hong), pianist Shai Maestro, vibist Joel Ross and bass clarinetist Tim Garland on this chamber sounding release. When plugged in, Law can get swampy as on the funky “Haven’t Meta Yet” and the rollicking “Outliers”, while he gets folky with Ross around Oh’s line on “Vivid”. Hitchcock’s tenor is warm around the nylon strings of the fragrant “Third I” and is soulful around on the deeply grooved “Don’t Wait Too Long”, while going for deep subtones and effects on a contemplative rendition of “After The Rain”. Teamwork tunes.
