Guitarist Simon Belelty is quite ecumenical as he leads a band and gives everyone a chance to shine on this album of post modern jazz. The band includes Kirk Lightsey/p, Asaf Yuria/ss-ts, Josh Evans/tp, Jason Brown-John Betsch/dr and Gilles Naturel-Darryl Hall/b, with the leader’s thick strings shining on the sublime “Habia” with muted horn supplied by Evans. Lightsey and Yuria are dreamy on their sonata of “More Than You Know” with the leader joining with Lightsey on a flowing duet of “Never Let Me Go”. Brown rumbles and Yuria’s tenor growls on Wayne Shorter’s “United” and the team goes modal on Shorter’s’ “Witch Hunt”. Belelty and Yuria’s soprano are cozy on the cute “Lady Luck” and the brushes are deft for Tony Williams’ “Pee Wee”. Charming charts.
