Educator and pianist Garth Alper brings together a classic sounding team of Lucas Munce/ts, Bob Nash/b, Chris Munson/dr and Jeff George/g for fingerpopping originals. The team shows its tightly knit connections on the aptly titled “Stop-Start Stomp” with Munce digging in hard once the clutch is popped. The compositions have a bit of a Steely Dan feel on the boogalooing “The Glide” and with George giving some nice lines on the title tune. Alper himself delivers rich chords and ideas on is intro to “Mournful” and is languid on “Triplet Tale”. A blue plate of sounds.
