Brothers Francois Moutin and Louis Moutin form the rhythm team of bass and drums respectively for the reedist Jowee Omicil on this collection of playful compositions. On alto sax, Omicil is warm and hip as he bops around the brushes on “AM” while swaying out the blues to the cymbals on “Abandoned Youth”. There’s a funky soul to the fun “Shout” while the drums get tribal for some sax subtones for the Coltrane-ish “Cosmic Dance”. Omicil has a warmth to his clarinet on the dreamy and woody “Caresse” and creates a moody haze while his soprano is prismatic on the loose “Up and Down”. Spontaneous almost-combustions.
