Rory Block: Ain’t Nobody Worried

One of the true embodiments of acoustic blues, Rory Block builds up her impressive catalogue with her third volume of “Power Women of the Blues”. She plays all the guitars, basses and sings with her road travelled voice, occasionally bringing in some drum programming and percussion as well. The “Great Women of Song” that Block is celebrating are comprised of those she heard on the radio from the 60s-80s, including Mavis Staples, Gladys Knight, Carole King and of course Bonnie Raitt. With percussion, she is a folksy minstrel on her own “Lovin’ Whiskey” and gives some funky grit to “Dancing In The Streets”, sliding on a bluesy steel on “Cried Like A Baby”. Her strings dance like a calliope on the rural “Midnight Train To Georgia” and she brings a harp-like tone to “Love Has No Pride”, getting personal on “You’ve Got A Friend.” Who’s going to do her tribute album?
