Bassist Jakob Dreyer leads a quartet of Jason Rigby/ts, Jon Cowherd/p and Jimmy MacBride/dr through a melodic collection of accessible and timeless themes. Rigby’s tenor sax is warm and glowing for the pretty cadence of “Milchstrasse” and breathy with the leader on “Kaspar”. Cowherd is relaxed and clear as he glides around the leader on “Legrand” and working around MacBride’s military sticks on “Gothamburg”. Dreyer leads into the caromed “J-Song” and leads the gallop for the canter of the closing “The Cure”. Water colors of depth.
