ROOTS…Mick Kolassa: They Call Me Uncle Mick!

Guitarist and vocalist Mick Kolassa jumps the juke box with a core team of Jeff Jensen/g, Tom Leonardo/dr, Carl Caspersen/b, Rick Steff/p, Eric Hughes/harm and a slew of shuffling guests on this clever mix of originals and covers. He swings with fun alongside vibist John Whittemore on “Sunny Side of the Street” and goes along the dark dusty road with violinist Alice Hasan on a rural “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”. Brad Webb’s slide guitar gives a twang to a cleverly upbeat “Woodstock” and all throughout, Kolassa comes across like the second coming of Leon Redbone, as on a blue “My Pencil Won’t Write No More” and a conversational “Used To Be”. Poems from the porch.
