Bold toned singer Tracye Eileen swings nice and easy on this album the ranges from hard hitting horns to sleek piano trio workings of standards. She’s confident and husky as she coos around the horns on the confident “I Love Being Home With You” and punches like Merriweather on the upbeat “You Hit The Spot” and is convincingly regretful for “The End Of A Love Affair”. With her trio outing, recorded at Chicago jazz club, she works the crowd, sashaying around the Latin pulse of “Almost Like Being In Love”, is conversational on her intro to “Just In Time” and gets funky in a Basie-grooved “This Can’t Be Love”. Classy and sassy.
Pianist/vocalist Carol Welsman treats the standards like they deserve, clear, swinging and fresh. With her team of Pierre Cote/g, Remi-Jean LeBlanc/b and Jim Doxas/dr, the husky voiced Welsman breaths easy on the relaxed “The Night Has 1000 Eyes” and gives a chanson to “Plus je t’embrasse”. And “Que rest-t-il Nos Amours?”. In a trio format, she coos through “Pick Yourself UP” and bops with joy on “Sometimes I’m Happy”, while turning into a Latin Lover on ”Somos Novios”. Melodic mirth
