Three is not a crowd…
Intuitive originals are put together by bassist Mark Helias, pianist Matthew Shipp and Gordon Grdina on guitar and out. Except for the bluesy “Synapses” with spaciously brooding “Amalgam”, the piece feel quite spontaneous and free wheeling. There’s a dark abstraction to “Palimpsest”, a rustling undercurrent of “Deep Dive” and tensile high notes plucked over the scurrying patterns of “ Ossicles”. More like musical hand signals relayed amongst one another.
