Putumayo continues its musical world tour by presenting ten songs of the rich and romantic Afro Cuban tradition. The recordings range from famous Cuba to the more obscure African island nations of Sao Tome’ and Principe, even hitting Guinea-Bisseau with the waltizing Enedia Marta on “Dur Di Kutubel”. There’s some mellow Afro-soul with alto saxist Manu Dibango on “Bessoka” , and lots of lilting folk guitars as on “Adios Guajira” and “Femme Noire” with an old world atmosphere on “Pariso Guajiro”. Sonora Paramerara brings hip horns to “Boracho” and bassist Mel Malonga sizzles on “Requiem De L’Amour”. The only disappointment is that there are no recipes for this collection, as the music got me hungry for some fried rice!
