Since being the last trumpeter for Horace Silver, Brian Lynch has built up a catalogue of exciting Latin-flavored albums, this one being no exception. He brings together a rotating team of Tom Kelley/as, Aldo Salvent-Chris Thompson-Taylor/ts, Kemuel Roig-Alex Brown/p, Rodner Padilla/eb, Hilariao Bell/dr and Murphey Aucamp/perc for 9 originals carried over two discs for various formats.
Lynch’s horn is as majestic and clear as Art Farmer, working well on the Modal “E.P’s Plan B” and lovely with Kelley on “Que Seria’ La Vida”. Padilla lays down a nice line on the nifty “Tom Harrell” and slinks though the blues on “Dance The Way U Want To”. The horn section is clever on the tricky line of “The Disco Godfather” and the team percolates on the lovely “Change of Plane”. Timeless material done well.
