Matt Choboter plays piano, preparations and “drone collages” with a team of Francois Houle/cl-el, Jacob Wiens/g-el, James Meger/b-el and Andrew Thomson/dr. What’s the problem, can’t Thomson handle anything electrical?
Anyway, Houle’s compositions mix dreamy and static atmospheres with piano and clarinet on”Knecth” while you get a feel of Bartokian strings on “Converging Diverging Part II” with sharp jagged edges on its “Part I”. Cark crystalline elliptical moods are felt on “Teslin Lake” while Houle gives his mouthpiece a workout on the foggy “Pagan Rainmaker”. Not sure if this is music or musings.
