Marilyn Scott: The Landscape

Vocalist and composer Marilyn Scott has served well in the niche of “female jazz contemporary singer/songwriters”. This latest album has her once again  produced by bassist Jimmy Haslip and mixed and matched with all stars including Gary Novak-Vinnie Colaiuta/dr, Michael Landau-Steve Khan/g, Russell Ferrante-Scott Kinsey/key, Alex Acuna/perc and Steve Tavaglione/ss to name a few. Sounding like a female version of Boz Scaggs, she gets  spacious and R&Bish as she tells a story on “Irreplaceable” or hip and savvy during ”The Landscape”. She’s always been able to spin a musical yarn, and serves up a couple as on the sleek ”Tomorrow” or the lilting “Unzip” while she sounds rich and breezy on the lush Latin lover of “The Sun”. Mature musings.
