LATIN LOVES…Spanish Harlem Orchestra: Imagenes Latinas, Luis Deniz: El Tinajon

Latin lovers…

Rich vocals solos and harmonies by Marco Bermudez, Carlos Cascante and Jeremy Bosch/fl lead the way on this festive album directed by pianist Oscar Hernadez. Mitch Forman provides a rich baritone sax for the dark and lusty “Cuando La Hispanica Toca” while the percussion supplied by Jorge Bonzalez, George Delgado and Luisitio  Quintero sizzles on “Mambo” and the sauntering “Sentimento y Son”. Picante salsa mixes with rich voice on “Llego’ La Hispanica” and feathery flutes float on the peppy title tune. Cruising the boulevard in 4th!

Luis Denz pays alto and soprano saxophones as he leads a team of Rafael Zaldivar/p-key, Roberto Occhipinti/b, Amhed Mitchel/dr, Adis Galindo/voc and  Jorge Luis Torres/perc through a collection of post bopping originals. There is a mix of traditional Latin melodies and tribal grooves throughout, as Denz glides over the village beat on “Reflexiones” and festive “Conga Para Florida”. Denz’s alto cries on “Dutch Flower” while Occhipinti and Zaldivar sway through the seductive and gentle “Bolero”. The folk drum patterns serves as a setting for rich vocals on the rural “Gesture” and the team swings hard on “La Ceiba De Mayuya”. Home spun remedies
