****RINGER OF THE WEEK****Joao Luiz: From Spain To Sao Paolo

OK! I admit it! I’m a sucker for acoustic Latin music. But I do have my standards, and Brazilian guitarist Joao Luiz has a touch that is lyrical and suave, perfectly suited for this album that includes interpretations of the pen by maestro Andre Segovia. Of these compositions, Luiz has a confident and resonant folk feel on “Oracion” and “Remembrance” while the Segovia-Torroba collaboration “Aires de la Mancha” is a wonderful mix of Andalusian traditional flavors. An interpretation of Frederico Mompou’s “Suite Composteleana” includes a lovely dance of the digits as well as meditative reflections”, with a fragrant aroma wafts through Fernando Sor’s “Fantasia” and “Minueto”. The music feels like a journey back to a time and lifestyle, with sepia pictures and sounds of a village square. A wonderful trip.
