Bassist Matt Aronoff leads a soulful team of Jason Rigby/ts, Yago Vazquez/Rhodes and Henry Cole/dr for some moody originals. Rigby’s delivery has a mid-to-late Coltrane edge to it, digging in deep on “Blue Quakkq while loose on the vibish “Morning Song”. The keys float around Aronoff’s bass line on “June 25” with the leader introducing “Hodgman with a spacious interlude before Rigby goes bel canto. Soulful struts.
