The word “canelita” can either mean a spicy cinnamon or simply the phrase “marvelous”, both fitting well with this band that has a wide variety of flavors. Consisting of Kenny Nettuno/vog, Julio Miranda Jr/g, Chunky Sounds/dr, Frankie Quinones/perc, Christopher Nettuno/cong, Matt Stallard-J. Troy -Andre Bowman-Julio Miranda Jr/b, Justin Powell/tp, EJ Hughes-Mac Isseks/sac and Mac Isseks-EJ Hughes/fl, the band mixes full bodied rock, smooth jazz, R&B and a picante salsa for soulful struts. There are both vocal and instrumental versions of a handful of the tunes, with Nettuno sounding like vintage Jose Feliciano on a fun and funky take of Bill Withers’ “Use Me” , while The Beatles’ “Come Together” saunters with percolating percussion. Lots of the guitar work and melodies are reminiscent of vintage Santana, with searing strings on “Senorita” , the festive “Breath Of Rio” and dramatic “Clouded Vision”, while there are cozy tropical pleasures on “Morning”. Tasty!
