You don’t see many baritone sax jazz albums anymore, as if you once did, so when one comes up, it gets my attention. David Larsen has a nice rich tone, not overused vibrato as well as a clever pen for this 8 song collection with Danny McCollim/key, Josh Skinner/b and Brendan McMurphy/dr. He’s confident on his clever “Another Porter Please” and caroms well on his bopping “Latin Silver”. McCollim adds class and style to “Through and Through” and soul stirring for “Bright Days”. For covers, Larsen is a warm blanket on “Come Rain or Come Shine” and suave for “In Your Own Sweet Way”. Bel canto blessings.
