Oded Tzur: Isabela

New York based tenor saxist Oded Tzur creates rich and palpable moods with his team of Nitai Hershkovitd/p, Petros Klampanis/b and Johnathan Blake/dr for a heaping handful of originals. The mood is mostly somber and contemplative, ranging from a 2 minute rubato of “Invocations” with a sighing sax, to an 11 minute title tune, with Hershkovitz creating chimelike ruminations and impressions under the hovering mist of the leader. Blake and Klampanis provide cymbals and tempo for the soft and gentle cadence of “The Lion Turtle” as Tzur brings in hints of Stan Getz’s glimmering tone, while a warm valley of yearning caresses the folk feel of “Noam”. Palpable textures.
