Dry rubbed ribs are served with a rich sauce by drummer James Gaiters and his B3 team of Robert Mason/B3, Edwin Bayard/ts and Kevin Turner/g. Gaiters leads the team through a foot stomping boogaloo with Bayard wailing on the fin and kinetic “Ding Dong” while the STAX classic “Soul Man” has the drummer opening the piece to lead into a hip groove and wacka wooka’d wah wah. Mason hums it out on the mellow and blue “Chitlins Con Carne” as Gaiters’ brushes guide the way, while the leaders’ cymbals sizzle through the tribal “Congo Chant” and Bayard howling at the moon.
