Jami Templeton: The Shape of My Heart

Vocalist Jami Templeton has a soft, wispy and delicate voice, using it for intimate portrayals of intriguing covers with her team of Andy Langham/p-mel, Edwin Livingston/b, Charles Ruggiero/dr and guest Joel Frahm/ts. Her gentle and breathy delivery to pieces like the ethereal “Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground” and the dreamy “Shape of My Heart” that features Livingston’s bowed soloing. The bassist also introduces the bluesy “Black Velvet” and gets extra room for Templeton’s tortured soul on “In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning”. Frahm adds soul to Langham’s upbeat stride on “Let’s Stay Together” and the team has fun on “Ain’t Misbehavin’”. Lighter shades of pale.
