Drummer Cecilia Sanchietti leads a team of Anna Lundqvist/voc, Linus Lindblom/ts-ecl, Simon Westman/p and Josef Kallerdahl/b through a collection or fragrant originals. What has this album stand out is the use of Lundqvist’s ethereal voice as an extra instrument, haunting over Sanchietti’s somber brushes on “Moan” before Lindblom’s tenor joins in to close with a dramatic finish. The change of moods and tempos is also a common and attractive feature here, with each song a musical journey, as on the stop and starting of the staccato’d and kinetic beat of “Noja And The Others” that closes with the leader showing her wares. The deft trio “Il Senso Delle Cose” mixes suave brushes and Kallerdahl’s deft soloing, with the full band gets angular and prismatic to Sanchietti’s snappy sticks for “Implosion”. Lindblom’s e clarinet is loose on rubato over the leader’s rumbling before the team pops into a 5/4 groove and gives space for some exciting soloing by Westman and panoramic voicings by Lundqvist. Each song is a trek in the hills, with different panoramas and vistas after going up and down the trails. Impressive paths.
