Best known for leading a traditional piano trio, Adam Glaser goes completely solo, using a combination of keyboards to create his own working unit for 15 clean and concise originals.
A few of the tunes like “Double Hellix” and “Blues For Planet 9” sound like a mix of an ATARI game and Herbie Hancock’s ROCKIT days, with some synthy space sounds. A calypso’d “Who Wants Lentil Soup” mixes synthetic steel drums with Middle Eastern moods, while there’s a banjo on Glaser’s knee fo “I’m Ready”. Lovely acoustic guitar sounds appear on “It Snowed Last Night” while a funky bass line digs deep on “Con Artist”, “A Man of Few Words” and “Pursuit No. 1”. The melodies themselves are well crafted, with Glaser wisely avoiding the traps of either self-indulgence or superficial navel gazing. The idea of being the only man in the band is a creative one, and not a gimmick. Check it out, particularly you keyboardist.
