Loose and intuitive material is lead by Tony Malaby/ts-ss, Ben Monder/g, Michael Formanek/db and Tom Rainey/dr on this ruminating originals. For the most part, Malaby is on tenor, picking up the soprano for the huffing and puffing mix with Monder’s lingering guitar on “Insect Scratch” and the pick and snapping strings with free note association on “Just Me, Just Me”. For the tenor sax, the team is dark and languid for “Corinthian Leather” while for 11+ minutes the team creates agitated mixes of spaces, sonic fragments and emphysemic gasps on “Recurdescence”, leading to the acid and feedbacked guitar of “Scratch the Horse”. There’s an 18 minute opus entitled “The Cave of Minds” that has shifting dynamics, gruff growls and meandering rhythms. Signals sent, and sometimes crossed.
