60S LATIN POP…Trini Lopez: Rare Reprise Singles

Back in the 1960s one of the biggest stars in pop  music was Trini Lopez, who had a couple monster hits with “Lemon Tree” and “Pretty Eyes”. His star rose so high that he also got a couple movie roles, most notably in the classic WWII film The Dirty Dozen. This 24 four song album, while not including his most famous tracks, includes a bunch of nifty rarities, and it also displays the wide range of music that Lopez was able to deliver. There are pop tunes like “Pretty Little Girl”, Latin pieces like Leonard Bernstein’s “A-Me-Ri-Ca” and a mambo’d “Su-Kal-De-Don”. His role in The Dirty Dozen is well represented with “The Ballad of The Dirty Dozen” as well as the full version of the tune he sings in the film, “The Bramble Bush”. He shows his artsy side on ”Love Story” and gets cute on “There Was A Crooked Man”. Lopez’s vocals were clean, clear and warm, making this an excellent intro to a man who one filled the clubs.
