Veteran bassist Dave Young mixes and matches with Perry White/ts-ss-bcl, Reg Schwager/g, Brian Dickinson/p, Terry Clarke/dr, John Johnson/as-fl, Les Allt/fl and Ewen Farmcombe/B3 on a collection of originals and bopping covers. He’s got a hard bop heart, delivering a hip intro with Schwage on Horace Silver’s classic “Opus de Funk” and working well with a bright and shining Turcotte on a bouncy take of Thelonious Monk’s “Evidence”. Turcotte is muted with a rich Dickinson on Woody Shaw’s “Green St. caper” while Farmcombe’s Hammond hums trhough the sleek “Ode To The Southwest” and post bopping title track. Young leads by creating a rich supporting foundation, finding just the right pulse to coaxe the music along. Timeless takes.
