Pianist Dave Meder leads a core trio of Marty Jaffe/b and Michael Piolet/dr with guests Philip Dizack/tp and Miguel Zenon/as through a mix of originals and a couple covers. He shows his impressionistic allegiances on a collection of solo meditations, while his solo intor to “Augusto’s Dilemma” is a cheerful collection of Monk-inspired strides with the bandmates. He adds his voice for extra drama on the Bill Evansish “Song Of Secret Love”, featuring Jaffe, wihle Piolet” adds a clippety clop to the tango of “Century Rag”. Zenon gives an Old World aria on “The Lake and the Mountain” and Dizack’s horn is dramatic on the thoughtful “I Loke For Religion in War” and evocative “Exile”. Colorful shades.
