Enrico Rava: Edizione Speciale

Flugelhorn efficianado Enrico Rava performs in a 2019 concert at Antwerp with his band of fellow Italians Francesco Bearzatti/ts, Francesco Didati/g, Giovanni Guidi/p, Gabriele Avangelista/b and Enrico Morello/dr on a wide range of stretched out post bop (mostly) originals. The one cover is a graceful waltz of “Once Upon A Summertime” with Guidi giving a gorgeous and elegant intro to Rava’s fluffy brass. The team shows it’s bop chops on the frantic and rapid fire “Infant” giving Evangelista a chance to spread the good news on his bass solo. The rubato Wild Dance” includes dramatic piano work and tension building with edgy effects, while Rava and Bearzatti produce a lovely romantic setting on “Le Solite Cose”. Morello’s brushes are deft as the horns saunter on the Latin lover’d “Quizas, Quizas,Quizas” and Guidi gets his moment in the sun on “Theme For Jessica Tatum”. A rich stroll in the piazza.
