Playing piano and Fender Rhodes, Alex Brown joins together a core team of Zach Brown/b and Eric Doob/dr, also bringing in guitarist Matthew Stevens for a bulk of the load along with various guests on guitar and percussion on various tunes.
He opens things up with a pretty piano solo that leads into a mix of various guitars and percussion on the flowing and multi rhythmed “Chacarera” while giving some McCoy Tyner influences on the minor hard bop blues of “24-7”. His keyboard work is soft and voice-like during the gentle “See You Again” while getting funky with Doob and Brown’s electric snap on “Novembro”. A more sensitive side is shown on “Anthem” and the trio take of “Almost There” with some clever interplay. A nice breed mix of Latin and hard bop cultures.
