Brasuka: A Vida Com Paixao

If you’re not a sucker for Brazilian jazz, there is seriously something wrong with you. The energetic pulses, sensuously nasal voices and surfing horns make for timeless enjoyment. The band Brasuka consists of Rosana Eckert/voc, Ricardo Bozas/voc-perc, Denny Robinson/p-key-voc, Tom Burchill/g-voc, Brian Warthen/b, Jose Aponte/dr, Danile Pardo/woodwinds, Drew Zaremba/ts-fl and Jeff Robbins/ts on a collection of originals, except for the creatively street fest of the Brazilian spicing of the Beatles classic “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. Eckert delivers a gliding wordless them along with Robbins on the sleek “Samba Jiji” while she saunter along the reggae’d pulse of  the title track. Robinson gets a chance at the mic on the lovely “La Huguera” while Bozas tells a tale along with melodica and street drums on “Deusa Do Meu Carnaval”. Aponte provides a nifty march pulse under Zaremba’s tenor on “Marakandombe” while his flute wisps alongside Burchill’s guitar on the breezy “Road to  Hermeto”. Tropical winds of serenity.
