Misty and impressionistic atmospheres are created by bassist/leader Andre Carvalho his pastel’d team of Andre Matos/g, Jose Soares/ts-as and guest Joao Almeida/tp. Without a drummer, Carvalho uses his bass to bow and pick out the pulse, which usually float as on the subtoned “Kilig” with guitar effects or the abstract “Uitwaaien”. Soares puffs out dots on “Murrma” and uses his pads for the beat on “Goya” with trumpeter Joao Almeida. Hints of Lennie Tristano create a hovering mood on “Resfeber” with Almeida while cool bop lines with trumpet and sax veer around “Karelu”. Running water colors.
