Coco Zandi: As Simple As A Dream

Best known for being half of Wild Child, Coco Zandi goes it alone to produce an album that mixes innocent sounding pop a la Jonathan Richmond with Tiki Room lounge atmospheres. Fun atmospheres lilt with rich harmonies on “Anybody Else” and there’s a sixties frivolity to the upbeat “Time To Get Away”. The synth pulse of “Grand Soiree” feels like you’re living in the land of ATARI, while “Be Mine” gives a more 50s kitsch to the groove.

Not all is fun and games, as there’s a dramatic buildup to “Fences”, a stark ballad “Angel” and a haunting and heartfelt “Dream Away”. Sort of a mix between David Bryne of Talking Heads and Disney’s Polynesian palaces.
