Wondrously deep reeds are blowing hard on this album featuring bari saxist and a swinging team of Brendan McMurphy/tp-fh-dr, Greg Yasintsky/ts-bs, Kate Skinner-Danny McCollim/key, Josh Skinner-Nick Isherwood/b and guest Ken Peplowski/cl. Peps shows up on the gloriously laid back “Augmented Reality” which is like a sip from a mint julep. The team swings like vintage Basie on the steady “A New Thing Comin” while swaying like a Pentecostal choir on “See You At 8”. The twin saxes hum like a V8 Chevy on the warm and rich “Family” and bouncy around on the kinetically fun “Into The Mild”, two stepping like dance partners on the toe tapping “Tensai”.
