Musicians, sounds and flavors from all over the world are melded together in this seven song ep put together by sitarist Purbayan Chatterjee. In a mix and match fashion, artist from India, Afghanistan, UK, US include Zakir Hussain, U. Rajesh, Shankar Mahadevan, Bela Fleck, Gary Husband, Antonio Sanchez, Thana Alexa and many more to meld jazz, folk, traditional and classical tones and pulses. The result it a musical kaleidoscope that takes you on a wonderful lonely planet journey.
South Asian vocal percussion is teamed with Sanchez’s drumming and Indian nasal singin on the lyrical “”The Mystic” while lovely voices and tabla tones gallp on “Catharasis”. Anat Cohen’s clarinet is bluesy alon with male and femal sining on the loose jam of “The Wait” with a mix of American folk guitar and sitar tones for “The Joyful Mother”. Mark Hartsuch’s sax creates an ambient atmosphere with Husband and Deepak Pandit on”Unbounded” and Indian pop moods with rich violin work are gently flowing on “New Beginnings”. More intercontinental teamwork here than any UN meeting, for sure!
