Sasha Dobson sings with a kind of Betty Carter flexibility as she teams with guitar virtuoso Peter Bernstein and mixes and matches with John Hendrickson-Smith/as, Steven Bernstein/tp-fh-sltp, Smith Dobsom/vib, Mauro Refosco/perc, Neal Moiner/b, Dred Scott-Kenny Wollesen/dr and guest Norah Jones for some bopping and cozy moments. With Jones on the title track, rich and feline harmonies are delivered, while with Bernstein, she’s relaxed on a bouncy “Softly As In A Morning Sunrise”. She does some nice work with Miner, swaying out some “Sho be dos” on “Sweet and Lovely” and is saucy on the hip “The Great City” as well as a lithe “Autumn Nocturne”. The horns preach it on a hoot of a take of the 60s kitsch hit “These Boots Are Made For Walking” and Dobson milks it for every groovy beat. She’s a fun one!
