The trend of giving secular social messages via song continues from Angeleno Cathy Segal-Garcia, who teams up with Anthony Wilson/g, Josh Nelson/p-key, Lorca Hart/dr and Edwin Livingston/b for a handful of protest songs and musical preachings to reflect the angst of today’s social/political situation. With Wilson she gives a street sermon on “For What It’s Worth” and is poetic on Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes”. There’s a hint of Judy Collins with an acoustic Wilson on her own “What Are We Going To Do” and she’s conversant with Nelson as she testifies on Peter Gabriel’s “Down To Earth”. Mon David joins in to give forewarning on Marvin Gaye’s “Save The Children” and she pleads with Livingston’s bowed bass on a medley that includes the Boomer anthem “Get Together” but she comes off pessimistic as she concludes with “Can’t Find My Way Back Home”. Prophecies without Elijah?
