Greg Loughman: Re: Connection

Bassist Greg Loughman creates deep and dark textures with his rotating impressionistic team of Nathan Kay/tp, Dan Elbert/as, Anton Derevyenko/ts, Matt Stubbs/cl-bcl, Anastassiya Petrova/p, Tyson Jackson/dr, Faris Ishaq/fl, Jerry Leake/perc, Max O’Rourke/g and Nadia Washington/voc. Almost every song has an electronic background effect, sort of like a sonic wallpaper, creating a foundation as Loughman’s deep strums build up and down with the reeds on pieces like “Disunion” and support Kay’s passionate horn on “Isolation”. Ishaq’s flutelike ney creates and exotic moods over the pulsating “Horizons” while Kay is fragrant around Petrova and Loughman’s soloing on “Grow”. Loughman displays his prowess on bowing and digital dexterity on his aria of  “Transition” while teaming with Jackson’s exuberance as Stubbs agonizes on “From All Sides”. Deep undercurrents.
