The team of guitarist Chris Olson, bassist Chris Bates and drummer Jay Epstein join together for a dozen various trio moods. At times Olson has a sound and drive sounding influenced by John Scofield, giving some nice post bop licks on “Hitchens” and bluesily bopping on the title tune. His guitar effects float dreamily on the rubato of “New Anthem” and sounds indie while rocking for “Changes We Can Believe In”. Epstein’s brushes are deft on the impressionistic and graceful “Anyway” and his sticks get funky with Bates, who leads out on “Bluetrois”. On nylon strings, Olson gallops with grace over Epstein’s pulse on “Velentune” and waltzes around Bates’ cadence during “Prep-Conceived Notion”. A three way tie!
