Warm strings that swing are provided by violinist Diane Delin, as she leads a symbiotic tieam of Jodie Christian/p, Kelly Sill/b and Steve Davis/dr through a mix of standards with an original. Her tone and approach is rich and ebullient, skating like Sonja Henie on the modal “Simone” that is coaxed along by Davis’ cymbals. Relaxed pulses with a smile are evident on “They Can’t Take That Away” while she slinks through the blues with Sill’s line on “Gee Baby Ain’t I Good To You”. Her own “For The Moment” is a lovely Latin lover, while a duet with Christian on “God Bless The Child” is a meditative sonata. Let me know when she hits the West Coast!
