John Armato: The Drummer Loves Ballads

Drummer John Armato gives an intimate and personal album as he teams his sticks with various guests on this intriguing musical journey. He gives  personal reflections in voice and with drums on a “Prelude” and returns to further reflections with pianist Wayne Hawkins on “Coda”. His brushes are soft with trumpeter Warren Vache’ on “Dreamsville” and intimate with guitarist Rod Fleeman for “For All We Know” A dash of bohemia comes in with vocalist Lucy Wijnards on the waltzing “The Shadows of Paris” with a continued stroll along the Left Bank with clarinetist Lynn Zimmer on “Memories of You”. Most alluring is the smoky tenor of Houston Person teamed with Vache on “Don’t Worry ‘bout Me” and a blue bass line by Gerald Spaits on a luscious “Poinciana”. A nice evening by the fireside with some drums, and bring a bottle of wine.
