Charnett Moffett shows what he can do with a fretless electric bass with his Spartan team of guitarist Jana Herzen and drummers Corey Garcia-Malick with guest woodwinder Irwin Hall. The core trio has Moffett giving “I can also do this” attitudes to the polka of “Swinging in the Realms”, the easy blues “We Remember”, a nimble baroque “Today” and a driving post bopper “Higher Dimensions.” Hall’s soprano sax adds to the Middle Eastern dance of “ETQ” and the soaring “Flying in the Air” while his flute gives a soulful feel to “New Love”. Moffett himself adds voice to the cheerful calypso’d “Love for the People” and gospel gems “Rejoice” and “Spirit & Bride Song”.
