TRIOS…Dahveed Behroozi: Echoes, Rale Micic: Only Love Will Stay

The core of jazz is the trio, here delivered in a variety of tones.

Pianist Dahveed Behroozi leads a team of Thomas Morgan/b and Billy Mintz/dr through a collection of intuitive originals. Except for the chaotic “Sendoff” the tunes are filled with loose and elliptical conversations. Morgan is featured throughout with his big sounding bass accentuated on the prismatic “Chimes” and works around Behroozi’s classical intro on “Gilroy”. Behroozi supplies dark chords for Morgan on the multi-dirctioned  “Chimes (Variation)” with Mintz   pushing the team forward on “Tricks” and on the abstract “Alliteration”. Shades of grey.

Guitarist Rale Micic teams up with B3er Jared Gold and the alternating drums of Johnathan Blake or Geoff Clapp on this collection of post bop originals and standards. Micic’s work is soft and graceful with Gold on an exquisite “How Deep Is The Ocean” and glisten’s on the pulsating “Riverdale”. Clapp brings a warm cadence for Micic’s soft strings on “Only Love Will Stay” and Blake’s cymbals guide well through a folksy “Even Steven”. Melancholy moments are oozed out by Gold on “Savas” and the reflective blue “January” with soft pedals opening up on “LIPE CVATU”. Pastels of sound.
