Playng tenor sax and flute, David Sills leads a swinging team that includes two guitarists in Larry Koonse and Mike Scott along with bassist Blake White and drummer Tim Pleasant. The strings mix and alternate rhythmic strums and soloing picks deftly , cooly swinging with Sills on “Minor Monk” and “Outside Corner.” The six stringers play some fun games, soloing together on the whimsical “Jones Tones” and clicking out riffs without drum support on the nifty “All The Little Things”. Sills himself is hefty in tone, bopping around the strings on “Fuggy Daze” and relaxed on the bluesy “Sync Or Swim”. His flute floats on the languid “Interplay” and is gentle on the soft landing of “Quiet is the Star”. Deft deliveries.
